Airline overbooking and “bumping” explained

Getting “bumped off” an airline flight is not such an unfortunate event, if you get properly compensated. A couple I know told me of their experience of having been rewarded up to USD 1,200 in travel vouchers in certain airlines just for giving up their seats on a fully booked flight. What exactly is “bumping” and what can you do to make the most of it?

Despite the ongoing, if somewhat abating economic recession, travel remains a luxury that people try to afford. Business and leisure travels, even if reduced in volume compared to previous years, continue to be in abundance around the world. Airlines understand that passenger cancellations cannot be avoided.
